Our Community’s Reality

Today, over 50% of Brentwood’s 35,000 residents reside in apartments or condos, more than in single-family homes.

Our multi-family residents have very little or no access to outdoor space or opportunities for organized sports.  Parents are turning to geographically inconvenient and expensive facilities because of their superior amenities and more extensive programming.

Our older residents, including the long standing Bridge Club, are traveling outside of Brentwood for enrichment and community because of the parking challenges and inadequate facilities.

Community Facilities Frozen in Time

Since its construction 60 years ago, Barrington Rec Center has not been updated to accommodate the community's growth, changing needs, and the inevitable wear and tear of time.

UNINVITING PICNIC AREA

ACTIVITY ROOM CONVERTED TO STORAGE DUE TO LACK OF SPACE

WINDOWLESS, SINGLE ROOM FOR ALL INDOOR ACTIVITIES

“I recently moved my child’s birthday party from Barrington Rec to another location.  There isn’t enough shade for the kids and the gopher holes on the field are a real safety concern.”

-Lynn A.

Outdoor Space Unsuitable for Recreation

The outdoor space does not offer shade for family members to watch their children play and the field designated for outdoor sports is a hazard due to reoccurring gopher holes.

“Turf the field for kids to play. The holes are dangerous.”

“The play structures and sandbox are long overdue for an update.”

“The picnic sitting area needs repainting, and we need more trees, especially where there are benches, so we have shade in the summer.”
